Tuesday 29th Decemeber 2015: Filming the Cafe scene- Opening the shop

First look at Mark Bennett's closed for christmas

These photos show the initial look of Mark Bennett’s when Katie and I first arrived. Everything packed away nicely, we turned on the lights and started putting up chairs with tables outside. Slowly, the shop started to look more realistically open.

Interior aesthetic

Mark Bennett’s patisserie was exactly what we needed to successfully portray the cute, town-like café in our film. From the textured wooden interior to the little table decorations, this café was perfect. Unfortunately we didn’t plan for many shots of inside the café, but it would create a lovely backdrop. We would later fill up the open display cabinet with small cakes and treats to create an even more realistic atmosphere.

A quick burst of rain

These photos can clearly show the unfortunate weather changes that happened throughout the day. However, after pulling the shop’s cover over the table we were able to protect the scene from rain. With the tables set out in their scene positions, the exterior was set and ready for the actors and extras.

Locations of the extras

Katie and I worked to create realistic locations for the extras to be placed. Since we were mainly filming outside, the extras were all located next to the front windows of the. This was in order to make the shop look busier than it actually was (we had 5 extras inside).

Our finished product

After all the above processes took place, Katie and I had created a realistic, open café shop. I hope this appearance comes across within our film.
