My Research into Title Sequences
In this section of my blog I will explore the use of titles with film, but I thought it would also be beneficial to highlight what ‘typically’ opening title sequences will contain. Not all films contain these specific bullet points in their opening titles, but the majority do; therefore I can use this list as comparative data for analysing my chosen title sequences.
Title sequences commonly contain:
Details of cast and crew.
The film’s title.
An introduction to character and character type.
Indication of place.
Indication of historical period.
Information regarding mood and tone.
Introduction to signature theme tune.
Information about genre.
Questions that the viewer finds intriguing (sets up enigmas).
Patterns and types of editing that will be echoed in the remainder of the film.
Mise end scene and cinematography that will be echoed or elaborated upon later in the film.
