The Cafe Scene
Having weighed up the pros and cons for using Mark Bennett’s patisserie on Penn Hill (Click here to see my section dedicated to this) my partner and I decided that the positives clearly outweighed the negatives. Mr Bennett was very quick at replying to my emails which indicated to us that he was reliable and trust worthy. The schedule for Christmas closing times for the café also worked perfectly in our favour; with ‘Café on the Square’ (our other café-scene consideration) we would have had to have filmed whilst the café was in use by the public, and this would have proven extremely problematic. Mark Bennett’s was closed from the 25th of December to the 4th of January which left us enough time to film everything. The location was perfect for all the scenes we needed to shoot and it was a clear decision to pick this café.
The Alley Scenes
With the river on the left and dark, unattractive walls on the right; the long path just by the Co-operative in Wimborne is great for all of our mysterious alley scenes. Although we were looking for something like picture B, the reality of finding something this aesthetically accurate was extremely unrealistic. Having looked at multiple alleys throughout a scouting trip to Wimborne, we decided this was closest to our ‘ideal alley’. We will be able to access lots of different angles from around the path which will add to the intense beginning voice over scene. The path follows on around the corner- behind the Co-operative- which will be where we film the capture of Katerina ending our two minute opening.
