The Re-shoots
In total, Katie and I went back for re-shoots twice.
1st re-shoot
When initial filming took place on the 29th December we were aware that Luke Labouchardiere was unavailable to play his role ‘Shaun’ for the few shots we needed; he was also filming his media project on that same day. Because of this we had to go back to our Penn Hill location for pick up shots at a later date.
Organising what date to do re-shoots was a difficult task in itself; Imogen, Luke, Katie and I all have busy schedules with our A levels. Eventually the date we chose was January 4th.
Problems encountered on the day: There were a handful of problems that both Katie and I came across when trying to re-shoot small parts of our film. For one, the lighting was different to the level of exposure present in our original footage. This was because our original filming took place over a full day with bright sunshine moments, we were doing re-shoots after school when the winter light was starting to get dark. I made Katie aware of this and we rushed through filming in order to prevent the chances of having to do another day of filming at Penn Hill.
Unfortunately this left us open to easy mistakes. One prominent fault with our continuity was the position of Katerina’s coat after crossing the traffic lights. In our original footage the coat is flapping in the wind as she walks down the street, but for the re-shoot Imogen did the buttons up. Katie employed a successful editing technique to reduce the impact of this particular fault on our film: adding a jump cut between Katerina walking across the road and when she walks past Shaun at the bus stop.
Finally, another continuity error that was made in the re-shoots (and throughout our film) is the change in costume with Katerina’s top. Both Katie and I were stressed and concentrating on as many parts of filming as we could; we left Imogen to bring her costume and sort herself out in the costume department. Only when it came to editing our media product did we realise the changing colour of her top, she had worn a total of 3 different tops through the course of our filming. Both Katie and I attempted a range of different techniques to hide this fault in our filming.
2nd re-shoot
Our second re-shoot was for only a single shot. While editing, our teacher suggested the need for a close up showing Katerina’s hand swipe the package away. Both Katie and I thought this would really improve the flow of our film and make it appear more natural. In mid-February we both ventured to Mark Bennett’s for a final time and used Katie’s hand to quickly film the shot; we also took several different versions. For example, the package being taken quickly, Katerina’s hand already being on the package when the shot is cut in or her hand coming into view after a small delay.
We quickly filmed the shot and added it into our film.
This concludes all the re-shoots we had to complete.
