Target Audience
Finding a target audience is very important to any film; it can change decisions made about plots and where the film inevitably ends up. For our film we are aiming towards the younger audience, between the ages of 12 and 25. Our film will involve action, mystery and deception, in the form of government agencies and spies; which will hopefully intrigue this specific type of audience. As teenagers ourselves, my partner Katie and I are familiar with the trending genres within our youth culture. From this we decided our film, so we can be assured it will attract the audience we want it to.
Because of this our film opening will be rated a 15. After checking the requirements for this category it would be out of context to place any of the specified into our opening, but we can still show our intentions for the film to carry on as a 15.
There is no sexual nature/ sex references, no mention of drug abuse or drugs, no explicit language or discrimination, no violence, no horror and moderate threat is included with an older tone. However the film will later go on to display some of these criteria.
Studying niche and mass audience: Making a swede
In order to investigate the differences between a niche and mass audience, our class was given a project to create and distribute a simple Swede. A swede more of a comedic skit than anything serious, but this exercise was to make us think more about the release of our film and marketing techniques, platforms and companies that could be used. I was placed into a group with Katie Johnson (http://katiej587.wix.com/asmediablog) and Luke Labouchardiere (who’s AS Media Blog is also available on Wix) and we decided to create an Inception swede. This consisted of taking a handful of famous Inception scenes (for example the corridor spinning scene, maze drawing scene) and changing them into a low budget, funny clip.
