Kingsman Title Sequence
The title sequence for Kingsman only contains the Film Corporation involved with the film and the film production groups however this pieces of information are displayed in a very unique way which demonstrates their importance in the film production. 20th Century Fox is the first to appear in big, 3D, gold letters flashing across the screen (the Kingsman signature font); Marv and Cloudy Studio Productions following closely behind. These various companies are definitely important in the films creation, but the animation with which they are presented to the audience is fantastic. Where Skyfall, Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace separate the audience from the film for a brief moment and reveal the title sequence, Kingsman uses an establishing shot to display the titles over. The reveal of 20th Century Fox, Marv and Cloudy Studio Productions is interactive with the on screen action (explosions and gun fire) and this therefore engages the audience and gives them an insight into the unique editing that will be later used throughout the film.
Sound
Sound needs to be acknowledged during this particular title sequence as the post production crew added a few details that make the title sequence of The Kingsman considerably more dramatic and comedic. As the bouncing letters hit the ground, bowling pins falling can be heard ,and I think this was added to give the audience a sense of genre. Bowling pins are not usually associated with war and by adding this aspect into the title sequence the film comes across as slightly comedic. Not only are these funny sound effects added, but the introduction of loud, dramatic, non-diegetic sound creates an interesting atmosphere that immediately draws the audience’s attention and gets them excited for the next part of the film.
Why such a short title sequence?
As you can probably tell The Kingsman opening has an extremely short title sequence with only 3 names being listed, but this is in order to give time for the introduction. Not only does the first few scenes interest the audience, but it also gives them all the historic background they will need for the rest of the film to make sense. The actual name of the film is displayed later on (after this introduction into the plot) which finalises the end of the titles.
You may have also noticed that the cast list is not mentioned in the title sequence either, again this is to introduce the audience to the film as quick as possible and bring them right into the present day action.
Comparing to our film
We would like to use this concept of ‘placing the titles over the on screen action’ in our 2 minute opening as it will save time and briefly give the audience all the initial information they need to know. From this research we can see that it worked well in the Kingsman and will hopefully work well in our production as well.
